If you and your family are stuck in the house on a snowy day or just looking for something fun to do, the mountains are the place to go. New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York offer multiple mountains within a considerable range that you and your family can travel to. However, the three mountains that stand out the most are Mountain Creek, Camelback and Whiteface. Each resort offers family fun, beginner to advanced trails for every level skier and snowboarder and snow tubing for the little ones in the family. Even if you may be coming out of your way to get to these mountains, the resorts provide hotels right on the mountain that you could stay in. From a day trip to a weekend full of fun, anything is possible with these mountains.

Mountain Creek, New Jersey’s top mountain, has everything. The 65 acre terrain parks that are located on the Bear and South Peaks were recently named as one of the nations top 5 parks in freeskiers 2012 resort polls.

Camelback is one of the only resorts in Pennsylvania that offers year round family fun. However, during the winter the mountain let’s the kids be kids, and the parent’s bring out a little bit of the kid in them as well. They offer 100% snowmaking and 166 acres of terrain to ski on. The mountain offers snowtubing, two terrain parks and a roller coaster that travels around the mountain. Possibilities are endless at Camelback Mountain Resort.

Whiteface, Lake Placid may be a little bit of a drive, but it is one of the greatest ski vacations that a family can have in such a close environment. The drive is a little over 5 hours,  but considering it was home to the 1980 Winter Olympic games, it’s worth the drive. Whiteface offers six mountains, 100% snowmaking and terrain parks for the advanced skiers and snowboarders. Even if you don’t want to ski you could visit the Olympic Village Museum and see all the memories and history captured during the 1980’s Olympics.

These day trips don’t only have to be enjoyed with the family; they can be spent with friends as well. Traveling with your friends and having someone there to enjoy your experiences with you is the best part of snowboarding and skiing. Considering the location of these mountains the chances of getting to these mountains is possible within a days trip. Each mountains opens around the end of November and remember even if we don’t get snow before the mountains open, they will be using the snowmakers anyways. Having these mountains so close to us is a privilege so don’t let it go to waste.
