This year, MiddSouth Nation has evolved into a movement that seeks to involve all of the student body and the faculty. Our first agenda is mobilize MiddSouth Nation moving, starting with attaining full support for the Middletown South Eagles football team. Last year, the team made it to the State finals against Sayerville at Rutgers Stadium. Sayerville’s crowd outnumbered South’s by an overwhelming majority. We are hoping to never again see empty stands, especially since this year there are only four home games, including the awe-inspiring win we had against Brick on the 20th. Our Eagles defeated Brick Township 28-7.
Mr. Seigel has started a TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Ed Club, a small branch based off a global idea sharing network right here at South. South is one of 25 schools from around the world that is licensed for this TED program, which uses discussions and community projects to spread, and possibly incorporate ideas, into our community in order to better it in some way. The TED Ed club went to great lengths to make the whole school aware of the game, and the outcome was one of the greatest crowds in Middletown South history. Our stands were almost completely filled, and we drowned out the stadium with support for the Eagles. Within three days, a video of The Nation’s roller-coaster chant hit almost 3,000 views. After seeing the Roller Coaster video (thanks to Krista Introcaso and Katrina Pollare ) both Manalapan High School and Middletown North became aware of MiddSouth Nation’s spirit and actively responded by gathering their own group of supporters, and even challenging the South Nation doubting that we are indeed the rowdiest nation in the Shore Conference.
In the end, we wish to overwhelm competing schools when it comes to the rowdiest and most supportive crowd ever. We hope to go beyond football games alone and encourage similar support for South’s other teams. Recently, both Boys Soccer and Varsity Field Hockey have received support from The Nation. We have also seen North increase their presence at athletic events, as evidenced by the latest Varsity Field Hockey game in which North’s team, although away from it’s own turf, still produced a solid crowd. This new surge from other schools makes it that much more important for the Nation’s numbers to grow. That is why we want everyone, the staff, students, and every person part of Middletown South to support our school. In less than two weeks, we are playing Manalapan, who almost won their district finals last year, losing to South Brunswick. Although it’s an away game, our Eagles are going to need all the noise they can get against a tough team like the Manalapan Braves.
