Sledding Traditions

Winter is a time to be inside and stay warm with a cup of hot chocolate in hand, but if dressed properly sledding outside on the cool snow is a very enjoyable activity.  Sleds are made in all different shapes and sizes and, unlike difficult activities like skiing, anyone can use one.  Once you have gathered your proper sledding materials and your winter spirit, you are left with just one question: where do you go?

There are many different locations people visit for this outside activity; Holmdel Park, PNC Banks Arts Center/ Telegraph Hill Park in Holmdel, Cheesequake State Park in Matawan, Beacon Hill Golf Course in Middletown, and Wolf Hill Recreation Area in Oceanport are all excellent choices.  Holmdel Park is the perfect size slope for kids of all ages.  It is not too steep, but also not a flat little hill, so it is a great day to spend with friends/family.  Most kids love going down steep hills so that they can make sledding into a game with friends and race one another, which will usually make that location more crowded and popular.  However, each location will create fun memories even if you are sharing your snow spot with others.

One of the best parts of sledding is that it does not require all those pads and fancy boots like other winter activities.  This famous pastime is not very dangerous, which makes it that much more fun.  Once that white snow hits the ground, everyone is excited to finally get out of the house and get some exercise while enjoying the winter air. Sledding is just the way to do it!
