Up until now, Middletown South has only offered Pathways for STEM, Business, and Government Law & Public Policy. However, starting this school year, the township has added another into the mix. Known as the Arts Pathway, this new pathway is an opportunity for students in the arts to gain recognition for their dedication. Students can qualify if they have taken at least two arts electives Sophomore year, and at least three arts electives in their junior and senior years. For the class of 2026, don’t worry if you don’t fully meet the requirements. Since this was not put into place earlier in your academic careers, you will be met with grace.
Whether you have taken art, dance, DMAD, music, theater, or family and consumer science classes, each of these categories falls under the Arts Pathway umbrella. Being a part of a pathway of any kind means your electives are catered towards a future degree and a career in this area. Upon graduation, your diploma will list the pathway you were in. Even if you end up choosing a college degree outside of your initial pathway, taking this extra step in your academic career will look good on your applications. If you are interested in any pathway that is currently available, see the Middletown Township website or stop in for a chat with your guidance counselor.
Every student at South is an individual, with their own set of interests. A large portion of the student population has an interest in a mathematical or scientific field, but you can’t count out the creative students! One student taking AP Art, Gianna Gavric, loves having the opportunity to “have a creative outlet at school that allows me to combine my love of art and biology,” referring to her AP Art portfolio. She and many other seniors are relieved at the new addition of the Arts Pathway and its chance to expand their college applications. For teachers such as Mrs. Tummilo, who was a supporter of the Arts Pathway, she’s “proud to let her students gain the credit for their hard work that they deserve.” No matter which pathway it is, make sure to choose the path that’s the best fit for you.
