Everyone has experienced nostalgia at some point in their life, whether it’s reminiscing on something you miss or looking back at an experience. The staff and students here at South tell and explain what makes them feel nostalgic.
History teacher Mr. Mullan experiences nostalgia everyday when going into work. Mr. Mullan was a student here at Middletown South. He quotes, “Anytime I see the soccer field outside my window or see something in a hallway or classroom, I get brought back to being a student here.”
The next person interviewed was sophomore student, Kaylee, who experiences nostalgia when listening to music. “Back in 2020, I listened to a lot of music. When I hear certain songs, it brings me back to middle school,” she says.
The last person interviewed was science teacher Ms. Boyce. She experiences nostalgia when she sees certain foods. “When I cook it reminds me of my Grandfather, he taught me how to cook. So when I cook certain foods it brings me back to when I was a kid,” she explains.
With each person, different things made them nostalgic, whether it be an activity or their workplace. Nostalgia happens even when you’re a kid and can still bring you back to a time just like an adult. Each person interviewed was brought back in time to a certain place or moment.
In the wise words of Cesare Pavese, “We do not remember days, we remember moments.”
