The Middletown South hockey team has faced a tough season so far, sitting at a record of 2-13. However, their difficulties on the ice do not reflect the hard work put in by the players. The Eagles have faced skilled competition this year, but they are focused on improving. Sophomore Ramir Jeffcoat summed it perfectly, saying, “It’s been a tough season, but my teammates show up every day wanting to work hard and improve. Our hard work will pay off eventually. It’s all about staying positive and keeping our heads up.”
Even though the team hasn’t been winning games, the boys have been playing with heart and skill. Players like Alex Ross have been stepping up as leaders, keeping the team motivated and focused. “I know the results haven’t been there, but I really believe in this team. We’re constantly learning from each game, and every practice is an opportunity to get better. We’ll keep fighting no matter what,” said Ross.
The team’s top scorers, Griffin Koske and Matt Hrehowski, have been key players this season, showing leadership in their own ways. Hrehowsik, number 12 on the team, has tallied 7 goals and 9 assists so far. Goalkeeper Nate Jackson, number 32, has demonstrated his skill with an impressive 296 saves. “We may not have the best record, but we are dedicated. We’re getting better every game, and that’s all you can ask for,” Jackson shared.
While the team’s record may be a losing one, the boys have truly demonstrated immense dedication and discipline on the ice and are a true testament to our school’s unwavering strength, even when facing adversity. With the amount of remaining games dwindling, the team is focused on finishing strong and setting the stage for a better season next year. MiddSouth has an exciting game against crosstown rivals Middletown North on January 30th and students are encouraged to show up and support our hockey program at such an important game.
