Fall Play-A Guaranteed Laugh
The cast of this year’s fall play put on a short preview of the show, “Brighton Beach Memoirs”, at Middletown Public Library last Wednesday, and they had the crowd in tears of laughter the entire time. Directed by South’s own Mr. Steven Koumoulis, the comedy is sure to have the Southside Theater cracking up.
This Neil Simon classic, chosen by Koumoulis, is the story of Simon’s tumultuous childhood and crazy family. The role of Simon, named Eugene in the show, is played by Senior Dan Ahl, who has been in many shows and musicals on South’s historic stage. Seniors Kelly Lozo and Anthony Forte, Juniors Elias Kotsis, Tara Kinsella and Jessica Fisher, and Sophomore Laura Diorio headline a very small cast, but all of them have captured Simon’s timeless humor and are in the midst of constructing a comedy for the ages.
The library preview of the play displayed a taste of each character’s persona and also unveiled a sneak peak at Simon’s rather licentious sense of humor. The typical 1937 Brooklyn family is entirely redefined in this classic, and Koumoulis’s experienced cast knows just how to make every seat in the house filled with laughter. Whether it be the immature and naive narration of Eugene or the innane troubles of the rest of the family, all facets of the show will be sure to knock your socks off.
New to South shows this year is the opportunity for attendees to purchase their tickets online to ensure a good seat, so make sure to buy tickets soon! The play will be shown in the Southside Theater on November 21, 22, and 23, and the ticket won’t be a purchase to regret.
