Q: What subjects or classes do you teach?
A: I teach Chorus and the History of Rock Music and Popular Culture.
Q: Why did you decide to become a teacher?
A: I have always loved music and enjoyed working with young people. When I reflected on the people that had the greatest impact on my life growing up – they were my music teachers – my choir directors and the school’s band director. I wanted to be able to share with students a small piece of what these musicians shared with me.
Q: You can obviously sing (you’re the choir teacher), but can you play any instruments?
A: I play the piano and guitar. And after years of teaching elementary school music, I play a mean recorder.
Q: When you are not teaching what do you enjoy doing?
A: I enjoy reading, doing home improvement projects, and playing golf.
Q: Are there any interesting facts you think the MHSS student body should know about you?
A: I love comedy and am constantly listening to comedy podcasts and going to stand-up shows.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?
A: If students are not signed up for choir, there are still ways to be involved. Students can join “half” choir – an after school ensemble that sings with the full ensemble for the concerts and trips. In January, half choir and regular choir students can sign up for Show Choir, a “Glee”-like ensemble.
