Q: Why did you decide to teach?
A: I was a public relations major first in college, and then I started teaching dance on the side and I loved it! I loved it so much and I thought “You know what? What I am doing is not for me, I should be teaching.” So I went into teaching art. And that’s kind of how it started. I loved teaching first.
Q: When did you realize that you loved art?
A: I’ve always been a creative person- everybody that I grew up with was very creative. My mom makes costumes, my dad’s a chef, my grandmother can do everything well so I just grew up in a very creative household. So I think it was just natural. I love to go to museums and look at art. So it was one of those things that kind of connected.
Q: What do you like to do besides teaching?
A: I love to dance. Um…I don’t know. I love everything! I love to crochet, I love to knit. I’m a very good baker, a super good baker. What else? I love to travel, not that I get to very often, but I love to go to new places. Anything new- I like to try new things.
Q: Is there anything you think the South student body should know about you?
A: I guess that I am here to help the art department grow, and you know, kind of show off the talents we have at school and to just build confident kids. Build confident kids.
Q: So what classes do you teach again?
A: I teach Functional Design 1, Fine Arts 1, and I teach theAustinAcademy.
Q: Is there anything you would like to add?
A: I guess just, you know, it took me a long time to get this job. It took me four years. I worked here for a very long time on and off. You just have to be really persistent at the things you want.
