In Nicholas Creamery the cold air hits first, but is quickly overpowered by the warm. sweet smell. On any given day, no matter the season, families crowd around the counter waiting for scoops from the place that has become a local favorite. The shop’s minimal black and white design creates a modern, simple atmosphere, leaving the color and personality to come from the ice cream itself.
Nicholas Creamery has a unique appeal that brings interest to customers beyond Monmouth County. It is not just your ordinary ice cream shop; it is a mix of New Jersey local favorites, fun ideas, and interesting flavor combinations that leave tasters wanting more. “People walk in for the creativity, but they stay because somehow the flavors feel nostalgic and brand new at the same time,” said co-founder Jodie Edwards.
Starting only recently in the year 2018, Nicholas Creamery has quickly become one of the most popular ice cream shops in our county that continues to grow and thrive. It now has six different locations across Monmouth County, serving as a staple for anyone with a sweet tooth.
“We wanted to create a place where every flavor told a story and every customer felt like part of the family,” described Edwards.
According to Edwards, what started as a small scoop shop turned into something bigger. This growth is powered by the fresh, local ingredients, seasonal produce, and unique flavors that are both consistent and delicious. Their way to go about these creations is three simple steps, “Slow, intentional, and with a whole lot of love,” said Edwards.
Some of those creations have become customer favorites. The flavor drops and seasonal releases quickly become popular, flooding the internet and the stores. But, the year-round flavors that remain on top are known as “Peanut Butter Palooza” and “Brown Sugar Cookie Dough”.
During a recent visit, I ordered a cup of Peanut Butter Palooza to see what the rave was about. The creamy peanut butter base is filled with the toppings in every bite. It was the perfect combination of salty, sweet, and unbelievably creamy. The small cup was filling, yet I still wanted to come back for more. While inside, I was intrigued with all the new seasonal flavors, especially Gingerbread and Santa’s Red Velvet Cookie.
What truly separates Nicholas from larger chains, however, is its connection to the community. The shop pairs up with other local Jersey favorites, bringing together the community and new customers, leaving a story with every bite. Edwards put it simply: “Nicholas Creamery stands apart because everything we do is intentional: we make our ice cream in small batches, we source locally whenever possible, we collaborate with beloved Jersey brands, and we treat flavor creation like an art form.” It is an extraordinary shop that has a strong community fan base and a close-knit team that loves what they do.
In a county close to the shore and home of many well known ice cream shops, Nicholas Creamery remains a place where ice cream, familiarity, and family meet. With every batch made with creativity and care, the shop continues to offer more than just ice cream. It offers a sense of home for the county.
