On February 21st, Mrs. Koumoulis’ s Block 6A Tomorrow’s Teachers class put on quite a show for South’s second annual Dancing With the Teachers ceremony. While many feared that it would be difficult to put on a show as successful as last year’s, last week’s show brought about a large audience and a show that mirrored the success of the 2012 show.
Even though this year’s Dancing With the Teachers had less teachers dancing than last year, the smaller group of participants brought with them enough energy and attitude to entertain and stir up the crowd. This year’s show included teachers both veterans and rookies, with acts put on by Ms. Davis, Ms. Mazza, Mrs. Kaster, Mr. Bigos and Mr. Trezza, Mrs. Baratta, Mr. Koumoulis, and of course, Mrs. Koumoulis. In addition to the dancers was a panel of judges comprised of Mrs. Erskine, Mrs. Lentine, Mrs. Lavin, Mr. McCabe, and Mr. Georgiou.
While the judges voiced both their praise and criticism of the dancers, their overall feedback of the night was positive. The performance ranged from “Diva” by Beyonce to “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls. And while the other four performances were very impressive and entertaining, the panel of judges ultimately decided to award Mr. Bigos and Mr. Trezza with bragging rights as the first place dancers that night for dancing to a medley of popular 80s music including “Maniac” by Michael Sembello and “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer. The runner-up was Mr. Koumoulis with his group’s performance of “All I Care About is Love” from the Broadway musical Chicago. The third place act was awarded to Mrs. Baratta for her group’s superb re-enactment of “Jingle Bell Rock” in the 2004 movie Mean Girls.
The 2nd Annual Dancing With the Teachers ceremony proved to live up to the precedent established by last year’s show, and although there were less acts in the lineup, all performances contributed to an entertaining and memorable night. Check out some moves from the night in the video on the right!
