Middletown South’s own Eagle was crowned champion of school mascots in an online contest conducted by radio station 94.3 The Point. Our Eagle took 52.44% of the vote in the concluding round against the crosstown-rival the Middletown North Lion on April 7th, 2019.
94.3 The Point stages an annual online competition called Monmouth March Mascot Madness, in which fans vote on the best Monmouth County high school mascot.
Middletown South was a strong favorite from the outset in 2019, and easily cruised through the final four by defeating the Wall Crimson Knight with 98.1% of the vote. Middletown North, after taking 93.22% of the vote against the Howell Rebel in the final four, was waiting in the last round for one ultimate clash. The result was close, but in the contest’s first championship round between two schools in the same town, the Eagle prevailed and was named the Monmouth March Mascot Madness Champion. It could not have been done without the Eagle faithful voting en masse for their mascot.
“I think it’s great,” said South principal Matt Kirkpatrick. “It’s awesome that we won!”
