Introducing the brand new series: “New Jersey: A Frightful Place!” In this series we will introduce you to the many bugs and insects you should be frightened of in New Jersey. We will also discuss topics that some will dare not discuss, such as real life Ghost Stories. In this series we will also explore the most frightening places to go, and the most disturbing creatures. Warning! This series is not for the faint of heart.

Who would have thought that you could find so many terrifying insects in New Jersey? One of these horrid things is the Cross Orb Weaver spider, also known as the European Garden Spider. This spider is a BITER! If it feels that its being threatened it will bite.Once bit, a human will feel several symptoms such as:  pain, swelling, redness, anxiety, nausea, muscle cramps, and headaches. These symptoms may last between 2 to three days.

Adult females can grow 6.5 to 20 millimeters, and the males can grow  5.5 to 13 millimeters long. Their colors are usually light brown, and have a lot of yellow or brown wavy dots and spots on their backs. The spider has three dark, longitudinal lines which means that they have three lines going from their head to their tails, resembling stripes. These spiders make their webs in gardens and eat flying insects such as mosquitoes and flies.

Other Fun Facts:spider1

The female Cross Orb Weaver is the one that spins the webs, the males don’t do much.

Females can lay between 300 and 900 eggs a day.

The females spin a new web each day, because at the end of each night, the spiders eat the web along with the insects that are caught in it.

Up next, we are bringing to you Ghost Stories. These are a collection of true stories told by your fellow classmates. The events are real, the people are real and the experiences are really terrifying!
