South’s Athletes Go Far

Souths+Athletes+Go+Far

The amount of talent at South is overwhelming and undeniable, and the athletics department is no exception. Last week, seniors Kyle Brey, Tayler Hendrickson, and Cassidy Weimer all signed to play college sports. It was a proud moment for the athletes, their coaches, and their families, who were invited to attend.

Brey signed to play baseball at Wagner College, Weimer signed to run track at St. Joseph’s College, and Hendrickson is to play football for University of Pennsylvania. In addition to coaches McCabe, Antonucci, and Clifton being present, the athletes were also joined by principal Mr. Rinella and superintendent Dr. George. At the signing, Ms. Fox asked the athletes and their coaches to share a few words. The coaches all expressed their amazement at the dedication and hard work of the athletes. Weimer reminisces on the special moment, saying, “It was really nice and it meant so much to be recognized for my commitment.”

Hendrickson is equally enthusiastic: “I am very excited about the opportunity to play for the University of Pennsylvania next year. Not only do they give me a chance to play Division 1 sports, but also get a really good education. Their football team is always competitive so I am looking forward to doing my part in helping us win an Ivy League Championship. I am most looking forward to the new relationships I am going to build with my new teammates and all the new people I am going to meet. I am also looking forward to playing on Franklin Field and just playing college football in general.”

Congratulations to our amazing athletes–we are proud to have you represent South!
