At the start of the season, the Middletown South football team was ranked fourth in the state behind three private schools. Was this an accurate ranking or just preseason hype? Well, after the first five games of the season the Eagles are 5-0 and have outscored opponents 221-35 with three shutouts. At the start of week 6 Middletown South is ranked #1 in the state of New Jersey.

Senior quarterback Matt Mosquera said, “ It is a great feeling to be ranked number one but our goal is to be number one at the end of the season and we still have a long way to go.”

In 2006 when the Eagles were last ranked number one in the state:

  • Mark Kelly was the principal.
  • Mr. Ventre was a senior at Middletown High School South.
  • NFL running back Knowshon Moreno was an Eagle, not a Bronco.
  • George W. Bush was President of the United States.
  • iPhones were not invented yet.
  • The majority of the class of 2016 were nine years old.

It has been 9 years since the Eagles won a Sectional Championship. Heading into the hard part of their schedule hopefully this team can live up to the legends of 2006.

GO EAGLES!
