A lot of South varsity athletes are rolling this autumn; but if one had to pick out the brightest star from a blinding constellation of talent, it’d have to be junior gymnast Katie Keogh. She’s coming off a tremendous sophomore season where she made Second Team All-State, was third in the Shore on the all-around, beam, and the floor, and finished 15th in the state for the all-around and 10th in the state on the floor. This season, she’s still a savant of South’s gymnastics squad, ranked 6th in the state with a record of 7-3, and her averages in her third varsity campaign are gaudy: 9.5 on the beam, 9.6 on the vault, 9.5 on the bars, 9.45 on the floor, and 37.55 on the all-around. In all of South’s meets, Katie has placed at least top three in one event, a great mark of consistency. Combine these stats with the highly individual sport of gymnastics and you get the recipe for an athlete who exudes pure, individual greatness. With Katie, Middletown South is destined to be in the conversation for a high finish in the Shore Conference, and there is no doubt Katie will be knocking on the door for another All-State selection and impressive showing at the state championships. She’s nothing less than a superstar, and she might just be the best competitor representing Middletown South.
