Trevor Van Riemsdyk, a Middletown native who served as captain of the CBA varsity hockey team and later went on to play at the University of New Hampshire, is making an impact with the Chicago Blackhawks organization. Van Riemsdyk has had a roller coaster of a start in the NHL. Last season, TVR started off with Chicago and played thirteen games until getting injured on a shot fired from now teammate Trevor Daley. After returning for Chicago’s playoff run, Van Riemsdyk played in six games and was able to capture a hockey player’s ultimate goal; a Stanley Cup championship. This season, the CBA alumnus performed well in training camp and thus was added to the team’s permanent roster. So far, Van Riemsdyk has played consistently for the Blackhawks alongside alternate captain Brent Seabrook. TVR has played in every game so far this season and has contributed offensively with four points (two goals, two assists). Looking to solidify himself as a top four defenseman for Chicago, Van Riemsdyk will need to continue performing well if he aspires to be a valuable asset for this team for years to come. Ultimately, the Blackhawks seem to have found more depth in their defensive spectrum this season with Van Riemsdyk exceeding expectations.
